Czech Tour to start, stars to present at Prague Castle

In just two days, the Czech Tour, the most significant cycling race in the Czech Republic, will begin. This year's 17th edition, running from August 14–17, brings the biggest change in its history. For the first time, the peloton will start in the capital city of Prague, visit Karlovy Vary and Pardubice, and then head to the traditional locations in the Jeseníky and Beskydy mountains. Fans can look forward to riders from elite WorldTour teams, live broadcasts on Czech Television and Eurosport, and on Wednesday, August 13, a ceremonial team presentation at Prague Castle.

“Our ambition is to continually elevate the Czech Tour. This year we are starting in the capital, but we are also visiting proven, traditional places. Live broadcasts also help us, as they open doors to the entire world. I believe the fans will enjoy a great show,” says Robert Kolář, President of the race.

The Czech Tour will once again be graced by the participation of elite WorldTour teams Visma - Lease a Bike and Soudal Quick-Step, which promises battles at the highest level. The starting line will feature stage winners from the Tour de France, Giro, and Vuelta, and fans can look forward to names such as Yves Lampaert, sprinter Luke Lamperti, and the popular Czech rider Josef Černý, who has already triumphed at the Czech Tour in the past. The Czech cycling elite, represented by the ATT Investments and Elkov-Kasper teams, will also be present.

The organizers have prepared an attractive program for both riders and cycling fans. The race will start on Thursday, August 14, from Vítězné náměstí in Prague, with the finish in Karlovy Vary at Divadelní náměstí, where the winner will be decided after a technically demanding and fast finish. On Friday, the riders will move from Pardubice to Dlouhé stráně, where they face their first major test and a fight for the yellow jersey. Saturday's stage from Prostějov to Ostrava will most likely offer a dramatic mass sprint. The race will then conclude on Sunday with the queen stage, where riders will travel from Kroměříž to the dreaded climb of Pustevny, where the overall winner of this year's edition will be crowned.

“We planned the routes to be balanced, so both climbers and sprinters have something to look forward to,” says Czech Tour Director Leopold König. “This year we will ascend Pustevny twice, and we hope this stage will be the one to decide the winner. Spectators along the route and on their televisions will witness drama until the very end.”

“Events like the Czech Tour are a great example of how a sporting event can connect the promotion of the Czech Republic with the support of the places it passes through. Our country has a lot to offer—from beautiful nature to historic towns and increasingly popular active recreation. The cycling peloton will visit regions that viewers around the world follow thanks to the broadcasts, which opens up new opportunities for tourism and for the municipalities and towns themselves along the race route,” says František Reismüller, Director of the Czech Tourism Board – CzechTourism, one of the official partners of the cycling event.

On Wednesday, August 13th, a ceremonial team presentation will take place at Prague's Hradčanské Square, where fans will have a unique opportunity to meet all the riders up close. The Czech Tour will once again offer a rich accompanying program in the start and finish cities, including activities for families and musical performances. Viewers can also win an e-bike from MND.
