Teams from World Tour will participate in Sazka Tour, the organisers want the best Czechs including Hirt

Twenty-two teams including to teams from the World Tour are going to come to take part in Sazka Tour, the most prestigious Czech road cycling race that will take place mainly in Olomouc and Moravian-Silesian region from 4th to 7th August. The organisers want to have the best Czech internationals including current number one Jan Hirt (Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux), the winner of one of the stages of this year´s edition of Giro d´Italia, to be in the peloton at the start. There is also one famous name from abroad in contention to participate. Two teams from World Tour already registered for the race - Team BikeExchange – Jayco and BORA – hansgrohe.

“We want to have as many top Czechs including Jan Hirt at the start, we have been intensively negotiating with the management of his team,” said the race director Leopold König, who is a former successful cyclist.

“The squad of the Czech national team is being solved but we want to have the strongest one. The recent Czech champion Matěj Zahálka, Jan Bárta, Zdeněk Štybar, Josef Černý, Vacek brothers and other names including former track cyclist Pavel Kelemen are in contention to be called-up. “It is still early but we want to have it finalised two weeks before the race,” said König who is the only cyclist who won the race twice - in 2010 and 2013.

Sazka Tour will have four stages in Olomouc, Moravian-Silesian, Pardubice, South-Moravian and Zlín regions with several mountain prizes and intermediate sprints. Stage 1 will be from Uničov to Prostějov, Stage 2 from Olomouc with the finish at Pustevny, Stage 3 will take the cyclists from Moravská Třebová to Dlouhé stráně, and the final stage from Šumperk to Šternberk.

There will be traffic restrictions in the centres on the race day and time-limited road closures on the route where cyclists will race. “Of course, we are trying to limit the impact to the traffic to a minimum,” König explains. The parking and partly also the exit route will be restricted at Pustevny where Stage 2 finishes. Dlouhé Stráně will be closed from both directions during the Stage 3.

The race is a part of UCI Europe Tour, which means the participants must have UCI licence (International Cycling Union). There will be more than 150 cyclists at the start selected from the best seven-member world and Czech professional cycling teams (World Team, ProTeam, Continental), and national teams and national selections from the cyclist of Elite and U23 categories.
